Cycled 24km++

Today, after days of Joshua bugging me what to do, we finally decided to go cycling after his Maths S. and victor joined us. actually I’d rather do something else, but don’t have much choice, since nothing else seemed to be on the Indifference Curve, so I cycled for about an hour before meeting them at Balestier, which is about the same time they took to go home from college. Then, we cycled down south towards Orchard, then towards URA Building via Chinatown. Took another hour to reach there. Some memories of UNR in the area.

We had some cooling dessert at the maxwell food centre before viewing the URA Gallery, which was pretty cool. I went there before, but that was so many years ago. They upgraded parts of the exhibit, it’s quite interesting to see all the architectural models, which I marvel at since young. Being an urban planner or architect has always been one of my childhood dreams.

We spent about and hour plus there, before cycling back via Raffles Place, Esplanade, and had a “pit stop” at bugis, where Joshua enticed me to buy some chocolate thingy from Bread Papa, and brownies from Four Leaves. The former cost $2.20 (ouch) but the choc cream is “molten” and tasty, while the brownies were great too. The Four Leaves at Hougang Mall don’t have so many things lah. After that, we cycled and parted ways at Lavender Street, where the sky started to turn grey. After cycling past old VS at Geylang Bahru, it started to drizzle, and then heavy rain while I took shelter at potong pasir bus stop. The weird man who camps at the bus stop, whom I always see when I go home from VS, is still here. Poor man. Anyway, almost wanted to park the bike there and take the train home. Or, as we pondered just now, who says we can’t have bikes on MRT? lol. hah no lah, I waited till the rain quieten down before cycling back home.

Hmm 12km+ in 2 hours, rest for a while, then another 12km in 2 hours. Thereafter leg a little cramped, and sun tanned. It was enjoyable, though pretty tired now. Time for bed.

Last Saturday during cell, Lydia asked everyone “what’s the biggest sacrifice I’ve made”…well didn’t answer at that point of time. But what I could say now is: Entering JC instead of otherwise, and spending 2 years in a place mugging instead of striving

Lonely Nation – Switchfoot

She turns like the ocean
She tells no emotion
She’s been coming down the fine

She’s just reminicing
Blood, sweat, and one thing’s missing
She’s been breaking up inside, inside

Singing without tongues
Screaming without lungs
I want more than a lonely nation
I want more than a lonely nation
Desperate we are young
Seperate we are one
I want more than my desperation
I want more than my lonely nation

We are the target market
We set the corporate target
We are slaves of what we want
We’re just numb and amused
And we’re just to sit back losing
We are slaves of what we want

Singing without tongues
Screaming without lungs
I want more than a lonely nation
I want more than a lonely nation
Desperate we are young
Seperate we are one
I want more than my desperation
I want more than my lonely nation

Lonely, lonely

Don’t leave me home
I’m tired
Don’t leave me home
I’m tired of feeling low
Feeling low
I’m tired of feeling low
Feeling low
I’m tired of feeling low
Feeling low
I’m tired of feeling low
Feeling low
Feeling low
Feeling low

Singing without tongues
Screaming without lungs
One more than my desperation
And one more than my lonely nation
Desperate we are young
Separate we are one
One more than my lonely nation
And one more than my lonely nation
One more than my lonely nation
And one more than my lonely nation

The Five People You Meet In Heaven – Mitch Albom

No life is a waste, the only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we are alone.

Bored!

Oh man I haven’t felt like this for a LONG time…
It’s the feeling of freedom, yet probably too free that get too bored and xianx and nothing to do…haha. Sometimes not studying is a blessing but sometimes it’s a little bad too, then again, some people are still studying after prelims. com’n take a few days break!

Well Econs S was pretty interesting. Didn’t really spend a lot of time studying, but anyway I chose 3 macro questions which I could apply most of my A level stuff a lot…lol

Past few days been slacking, probably spent too much time at home, on the computer, watching TV etc. And oh, I just got asked to design SDD ticket. lol.

Would probably rest for a few more days to a week…maybe I’ll do some video/website or both……

End of Prelims! (almost)

Yay today is unofficially the last day of my prelims! (cos still got econs S on thursday…)

anyway econs paper 3 was fine, just that I focused on P&P but it didn’t came out except one question. hope that the other questions I answered adequately. Maths 2 was easier than Maths 1, while Computing 2 was pretty tough especially the 2 huge algorithm questions. Quite interesting though, on Army Half Marathon. Mr gi must have been inspired after he ran for it or something. Physics 3 today was so-so, hope my calculations were right. Econs MCQ was very tricky, a lot not sure, DRQ was fine, as for case study, I guessed the topic correctly! lol in fact I even had the newspaper article for the yuan revaluation before the exam, as I saw the article laas time, kept it but didn’t read it until for a bit today. Haha but no use lah, doesn’t mean I know the topic means I know how to answer the questions. But was pretty fine.

For those who getting bored, here are some games/puzzles:
– pretty cute and interesting GrowCube, check out the other games there too…
– explore the “eerie” Haunted House
– the good ol’ crimson room which got us hooked during this time last year

A good one week break ahead, perhaps maybe it looks a little long…

Halfway through Prelims…

Maths was challenging especially the huge complex number question. Didn’t have much time to study Computing, but it was pretty alright. Just crapped my way through. Physics Paper 1 was horrible, couldn’t finish, did halfway and then realised I’ve only 20 minutes, so the next half was a rush. It was quite tough, all the workings very troublesome. Fortunately, Paper 2 was still do-able, except for the data analysis. Later is Econs, hope that I don’t have a mental block.

Stress.
It doesn’t feel the same.

Tomorrow

And so tomorrow is the prelims…

I had “freedom” for the past 5 days, i.e. from my parents cos they went overseas for a holiday. Last week was probably the most strenuous week so far, doing so many prelim papers, though I wonder if I did enough. I can’t say that I’m exactly very prepared, probably just enough. Sigh. Nevertheless, went to watch Be With Me, the film by Eric Khoo, with khooky and cygb and dax on Wednesday evening. Was a pretty interesting story, or stories rather, about Meant to be, Finding Love, So in Love, and Be With Me, of which lesbianism, loving someone of a different social class, losing someone you loved, and the true story of a deaf and blind woman were protrayed. It’s quite touching and thought provoking, and there was very little verbal dialogue in the whole movie, lots of subtitles and SMSes. Probably a message was that in this world, we communicate a lot through many different means…SMS, MSN, letters, and other forms, but we never seem to express our thoughts well enough across. How true. Overall, also a pretty abstract arty film, which gained its fame at Cannes Int’l Film Festival.

Yesterday night visited COOS and heard the most rockin’ version of I Could Sing of Your Love. Quite a nice place.

And so here comes tomorrow.

Study

This morning my mum was as usual grumbling about me not studying enough, blaming the Internet/email/chat etc., say I should stop using the computer from now on and treat it as a white elephant. She also said last time primary and secondary school I was very hardworking, she didn’t need to worry, but now JC my results not very good, thus I not so guai now. And then she start citing examples of PRC people she know in her office who memorise the whole book even though they don’t know english well. they just memorise so that they can score well. after memorising, they can regurgitate the whole book easily. and then she’d say they memorise where got surf Internet? blah blah. well, is memorising the point of education? I hope not. Are exams merely testly our memorising skills? Sadly, to a large extent, it seems to be so. Sigh.

But since I’m already trapped in this, might as well finish it. Finish strong, I pray.

How I wish I have lots of time to myself to study, without distractions, without being de-motivated. How I wish I can spend perhaps some time off in Luang Prabang, Laos, and have a study break there, in the tranquil town, away from all the bustle. lol. Not impossible, just financially not quite feasible.

I don’t care what the world throws at me now…I’m gonna be alright…

Noises around home, Happy Teachers’ Day

Just in front of my room window is HIHS which is undergoing PRIME and the drilling seems neverending; and then came a fitful car siren sound which came out of nowhere. And then, a bird decided to perch on the metal sun-shade thingy outside my window and shit there. Yes, shit. I think this is the second time because a few days ago, while I was getting ready for school, I heard a bird outside my window ledge and in the afternoon when I came back, there was a shitty smell. and thus the wind blows and I smell shit.

Ah, rain comes. Ok the rain helps to clean them off. Hopefully.
But, oh no, that means I can’t go for my weekly run.

And the drilling is still going on infinitely.

I told you not to study at home!

ayam brand was tomorrow-ed, and now it’s TODAY-ed. Will it be yesterday-ed? lol.

As seen on vs.moe.edu.sg

On another matter, for academic year 2006, we will open 20 places for boys who are interested in joining VS at Sec 3. We are interested in students who have strong achievement orientation and have done well in their present schools. If you are interested, please use the online application form. Selected applicants will be called for interview. Please note that places are limited and we have already received many applications.

Another trick on the principal’s sleeve? Well weird I would say. Wonder if other secondary schools are doing the same.

Anyway I still can’t imagine girls in VS. What kind of uniform will they wear? And I anticipate relationship problems in VS, causing people to be distracted from their studies. Sigh.

Yesterday was teachers’ day and was at VJC and then VS. The iCOMP video was very successful, probably the most amusing one so far. Kudos to Rowell and the team. Other than that, probably the other interesting thing was the Singapore Idle video done by the new teachers. The rest were pretty standard. I prepared some gifts for teachers – a photo-card. Mdm Teo said the virtue of Year 2s coming back to thank teachers, while studying for prelims, is almost extinct. lol. Ms Leong said “Thanks for the unique gift, which I will enjoy everyday.”

After the concert, some VS guys did cheer in the canteen and got stares and boos. Oh well…

The treehouse construction is in progress. I wonder what if the tree outgrows the house, or what if one of the branches break like last time? Or what if lightning strikes? choy!

Anyway, VS’ concert was pretty messy. There was some alumni rock band which supposedly achieved international standards and signed a record with Universal Music or something. They performed their rock version of the Victorian Anthem and they sang it wrongly! They switched the lines and missed a word or two. argh. wonder if they know about it. It was quite disgusting. (If you like to see a short video clip of it, ask me.) The rest of the concert was more singing and performances which I think didn’t really pleased the teachers as most of them walked away due to the noise. I think it was more students-catered. One interesting part was a MTV Video done by 4J which featured their rendition of Simple Plan’s Perfect, which was done quite badly. But they had a good pun on the co-ed issue. They featured a guy going to toilet, and suddenly the toilet had a female sign next to the male sign. Then later the male and female sign hold hands. Then at the end of the video, the male and female hold hands with two kids in the middle. LOL. That was funny.

Anyway, I met some of my teachers, including Mr. You who was working in the D&T room. Met some friends too, though not many from my batch, only Kai Wei, Eugene and some others. Krishna looked SO different that I almost couldn’t recognise him. Oh and the new heritage room is pretty cool. My class’ lego piece found a place on the floor.

I heard some old boys from the band actually wanted to play anthem in front of the office and sing together with the others. haha but in the end didn’t.

In the evening, went for prab’s chalet at changi. (yes, chalet, what an apt time to have one eh?) it was quite good. we had lots of food and played PS2 and later played hide-and-seek in the huge compound. lol.

Well, Happy Teachers’ Day.

update: mdm teo smsed later and said: thanks for your cute present. really appreciated and touched by you (despite being) year 2 (but) still come back and thank teacher. nowadays this virtue is almost extinct. (lol) Thanks for helping icomp and college so much. Of course must also thank you for helping me in one way or another when I need help. Millions of thanks.

haha.
