Picture Story Revisited: Draft

in [ Assignment 3 ]

We took our photos based on the new storyboard and this is what we got. After putting the photos together, I realised that there is not enough facial expressions and there is a continuity error in photo no. 1, 2, 3 as firstly, the bus is a different bus, and secondly, the ground beneath the watch looks like the person has walked back to the position in 1. I think we will retake photos 1, 2 and 3 as feedback from the tutors is that photo 3 can be better if there is a facial expression of the person feeling late. Also, photo 8 needs to be clear enough when printed. We possibly have to try and/or retake it also. Need to add motion blurs to the running scenes too. But I guess this story is better than the first one.

Picture Story Revisited: Sketch

in [ Assignment 3 ]

Meng Hui and I decided to redo our picture story since feedback was that suicide stories are quite cliche. So we decided to do a story based in NUS. Here’s a sketch of the storyboard:

NUS Internal Shuttle Bus Map

in [ Assignment 6 ]

NUS Bus MapI had an idea to do such an infographic/map since long ago, when I first entered NUS. I found that it is hard to decipher where the buses go based on the campus maps at the bus stops. This was the original idea which I tried, which incorporate straight lines and looks like an MRT map. However, feedback from my friends is that it is hard to decipher the places as most people are used to looking at the campus map. Hence, I decided to create another version with more curved lines based on the roads on the map. So here’s the new version, along with detailed routes of the different shuttle buses, inspired by LTA’s Key Bus Services Map.

I think it needs some improvement as some of the lines are too closed together.

Sketches for Infographics

in [ Assignment 6 ]

sketch1

This is my first idea which is kinda wild, creating a ‘map’ of how to walk from Heng Mui Keng Terrace (BIZ2) to Central Library, and showing how many flights of steps you have to climb in order to get there. It is actually about 10 storeys high from ground level of BIZ2. Amazing right? But perhaps do not really fulfill the requirements of the assignment.

sketch2My second idea is to show the process of how a script gets into production and is finally made into a film and shown in the screens. Basically my passion and area of work, and can be put into good use for nuSTUDIOS. Haha. Must think of a way to make it more interesting though.

Draft for Assignment 5

in [ Assignment 5 ]

thumbnailsThis was what I presented in class. I had much problems in thinking of what to create for this one as the topic is quite open ended and there is a limitation as I don’t have much resources/photos to tap on. Initially, I wanted to draw a map of asia and draw mini-icons of the landmarks on the map. After that I thought it was too tedious and too touristy – which was what Ms Jing did not want. It is difficult to think of something that is unconventional and not touristy.

I don’t really think it is very original work as I just used the faces of movie stars online – Red Cliff, some Japanese manga and Slumdog Millionaire. The Japanese manga character is definitely out as it is a direct trace of the vector artwork. The other two probably needs re-tracing. However, I wanted to create a movie poster as I thought it is quite unique and is something that I am passionate about. Besides, Asia has quite a few well-known movies and stars.

Some of the comments from the class is that there needs to be a balance of male and female characters. Another thing is that maybe I should use another idea instead of this? Also “Coming Soon” can be changed to “Now Showing”.

iN2015 Poster Prototype

in [ Assignment 4 ]

Here’s the poster which I came up with:

in2015poster-web

While designing it, I realised that my 5 megapix camera is not good enough for an A3 size print. And the picture of the laptop screen turned out noisy. So I’ve to use some Photoshop filters to ‘save’ it. Hmm.

Photo Taking

in [ Assignment 4 ]

Based on the “No More Textbooks” idea, I dug out some very old O Level textbooks and took some photos with my laptop. My laptop screen is kind of reflective so I decided to omit capturing whatever is on the screen itself.

Assignment 4: Brainstorming

in [ Assignment 4 ]

I thought of two copies/write-ups:

iN2015: Your home at your fingertips.

Imagine a world where your home is accessible by the touch of your finger. Just a flick on your phone or computer, and your air-conditioning will be switched on instantly, cooling down your room even if you are miles away from home. Forgot to switch off your lights after leaving your house? Not a problem. Need to heat up something in the microwave? Need to record a television programme? Just a click away.

iN2015: No more textbooks

Imagine a world where going to school does not mean carrying a heavy bag of textbooks. Chinese and Social Studies class next? Not a problem. Need to check some ten-year-series questions? It’s all in there. Dictionary? Check. Internet? Definitely. And a video chat with your teacher is just a click away.

And here are some thumbnail sketches, 1st one based on the 1st copy, while the other two are based on the 2nd copy.

Class Exercise C

in [ Class Exercises ]

class-ex-C1

The choice of an up arrow for shift is quite obvious as it is the icon on the keyboard. I added some rectangular blocks to make the shift action more obvious.

class-ex-C2This is a chaos of shapes and colours as there is no unity in them. The four arrows culminating at a point symbolises four directions clashing onto one another, hence creating conflict and chaos.

Assignment 2 Revised

in [ Assignment 2 ]

Degree-of-Abstraction-small-v3

Here’s a revised version of my Degree of Abstraction based on the feedback from my tutorial.

  1. 3D Perspective View
  2. Convert to 2D View
  3. Zoomed in, remove ‘stool’
  4. Remove power adapter box and table on the left
  5. Remove laptop screen and table on the right, and simplified cable looping

My sign should be indexical and imperative, as the line symbolises a dangling cable and influences the receiver not to leave his/her cables dangling. And here’s the proposed location of the sign, on one of the pillars of the library:
